A Real Saskatchewan Branding

A couple of weekends ago Jared got asked to come help out at a branding. We know the family from Church and Bekah and I were also invited to come along and share in the fun and the lunch afterwards. This was my (and Bekah's) first time seeing a branding and I thought it was really cool. I was surprised and impressed to find out that brandings are such a community event around here. They say you could probably go help out at a branding nearly everyday for a few weeks around here, and many people do. There were probably about 20 or so extra people helping; they were doing anything from roping, wrestling, immunizing, branding, treating for worms, and spray painting the finished calves.  The family has about 200 cow/calf pairs and it took them a few hours to finish branding all the calves.
*Also, I need to add that I didn't take any of these pictures

One of their young daughters was doing most of the spray painting.
Jared had a lot of fun wresting the calves.

Mother's Day 2015

Yesterday was my second Mother's Day being a mom. It was a special and enjoyable day and it started with Jared making some delicious pancakes and bacon for breakfast. I also enjoyed getting to wear my new jean jacket (Mother's day gift from Jared and Bekah). At Church I received a beautiful rose, and later we enjoyed a nice (but windy) wiener roast at the farm with Jared's family.

Love this baby girl!

Everything in the mouth!

Business Adventure

One of Jared's favorite pastimes is hiking through the river hills close to his parents farm and trying to find antlers. In case you were not aware Deer (or Elk, Moose, etc) shed their antlers every spring and then grow a new set in summer. Usually he will come back with about 5-15 antlers per hike. He enjoys trying to find large antlers and is particularly excited if he finds a large set. I have gone hiking with him quite a few times, and even Bekah has come on a couple of trips (in Utero included).

We figured if there was a way to turn this hobby into money why not give it a try, so Jared and I recently decided we would open up an Etsy business selling cut up antlers as "doggie chews." We had seen other people sell these on Etsy and with much success. So, if you or anyone you know is interested in purchasing these dog treats please check out our Etsy shop at
